New York Lawyer Normal Letitia James despatched a cease-and-desist order to Nassau County Govt Bruce Blakeman Friday, demanding he rescind an government order prohibiting transgender athletes from competing in women and girls’s sports activities within the space. 

In a press launch issued by the Lawyer Normal’s workplace, the manager order Blakeman signed final week was slammed as discriminatory and a violation of New York’s Civil and Human Rights Legal guidelines.

“The manager order discriminates towards transgender ladies and ladies merely for being who they’re, and towards groups that embody transgender ladies and ladies on their rosters, in clear violation of New York’s Civil and Human Rights Legal guidelines,” the press launch states.

“In a cease-and-desist order despatched immediately, the Workplace of the Lawyer Normal (OAG) demanded that Nassau County rescind the order in 5 days or else face extra authorized motion.” 

James reiterated the menace of authorized motion in an announcement launched by the workplace.   

“The legislation is completely clear: You can’t discriminate towards an individual due to their gender identification or expression. We now have no room for hate or bigotry in New York,” James stated. “This government order is transphobic and blatantly unlawful. Nassau County should instantly rescind the order, or we won’t hesitate to take decisive authorized motion.”

Blakeman’s government order prevents transgender athletes or groups with transgender athletes from utilizing the county’s sports activities venues. 

“What we’re saying right here immediately with our government order is that if a league or workforce identifies themselves or advertises themselves to be a ladies or ladies’s league or workforce, then organic males shouldn’t be competing in these leagues,” Blakeman stated at a latest press convention saying the legislation. 

Blakeman responded to Friday’s cease-and-desist discover on social media, indicating no plans to rescind the manager order.
